Happy Halloween

I have never missed a Halloween, mainly because I had my firstborn at such a young age that I shifted easily from trick or treating, to totting around a child to trick or treat for me!

I wouldn’t recommend this, as it is the most challenging way to start your life.

My son was two months old for his first Halloween, dressed as a Teddy Bear from Baby Gap. I carried him around in my arms and had many house occupants ask, “is that an Anne Geddes doll?”

“No ma’am, it’s my baby.”

This started my world of “you’re too young to have a baby,” and now, “you’re too young to be a grandma.” Yeah, well, I am, and it’s facts and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I love my family and can boast that three out of four of my children wore that Anne Geddes-looking bear costume, and I still have it in a bin somewhere.

Because that’s what we do. We save memories, especially the good ones, to keep close to our hearts and build on who we are. Because who am I really, but the woman grew up through teenage pregnancy, addiction and homelessness. I put some truth in my stories, but mostly fiction. I like to make up a world that I have not lived through because I have lived through many horrors in my life. For real and imagined.

But what is the point in this post?

Nothing really. I just wanted to say how much I love Halloween because I can be anyone I want to be, even though I have been so many different people throughout my life.

I change every day.

I don’t like dressing in the same jeans twice. I don’t like showing the same creases twice. But I keep those memories to remember when I have changed.

Much love on this day of change,
